Failed connecting to WiFi

  1. I presume you have a black :spark: core?

  2. You can try to use WPA and see if it works out well.

  3. If you have a u.fl core, make sure the antenna is on.

  4. We can do a CC3000 patch if all else fails.

Thanks! :smiley:

Hi @kennethlimcp

Yes, looks like black to me.
I have tried WEP,WPA,WPA2.
Mine is chip antenna one.
Don’t know about the patch, tried patching , downloaded all the required files but seems to difficult to me , any help would be highly appreciated in this regard.
Thanks.

@rverma,

do you happen to have another core which connected fine?

If you are not keen to troubleshoot, simply shoot an email to hello@spark.io and we will arrange to exchange the core :smiley:

Let’s try to do a factory reset one last time and make sure the SSID and password does not contain funky characters.

If that does not work out, we will attempt to perform a patch and i will post the steps to do so :smile:

@kennethlimcp ,

No, this is the only core I have. I am more than willing to rectify this fault but only if my skill level permits me to do so. I have tried resetting it number of times but it didn’t help. And I have entered the SSID and password correctly , with no funky characters . Just to add , I have also tried it connecting to a hotspot I made using an android phone but no success doing that.
Thanks.

Can you give a easy to do guide for patching it , cause I have gone through the resources number of time ,downloaded all the files that were needed but sounds too technical to me (though it was supposed to be easy). All that terminal,Git,zagit, I am not used to all this please help me out. Maybe I can try again

  1. Install DFU-util on Windows :https://community.spark.io/t/tutorial-installing-dfu-driver-on-windows/3518

  2. Download the CC3000 patch file: https://github.com/spark/cc3000-patch-programmer/blob/master/build/cc3000-patch-programmer.bin

3, Run DFU-util with this command

`dfu-util -d 1d50:607f -a 0 -s 0x08005000:leave -D cc3000-patch-programmer.bin

Alternatively, you can install Spark-cli and use spark flash core_id cc3000

Instructions to install here: https://community.spark.io/t/tutorial-spark-cli-on-windows-06-may-2014/3112

Hope this helps!

The DFU- util window exits as soon I try to run the dfu-util.exe file.

And where do I type this command , cmd, or DFU-util itself?

sorry , huge typo there, @kennethlimcp

@rverma,

you can edit your own post and remove the @.

yes, you will need to use cmd. CD to the DFU directory and make sure to place the cc300 patch file there are well.

Also, the core must be in DFU mode (blinking yellow)

@kennethlimcp
You mean the directory where the dfu-uti files are?
Ok,I’ll edit that.

yup cd /D the_dir and run the command dfu-util -d 1d50:607f -a 0 -s 0x08005000:leave -D cc3000-patch-programmer.bin

@rverma,

use this instead dfu-util -d 1d50:607f -a 0 -s 0x08005000 -D cc3000-patch-programmer.bin

You should have installed V0.7 instead http://dfu-util.gnumonks.org/releases/dfu-util-0.7.tar.gz

Once the flash is successful, reset the core and perform a factory reset, re-send Wifi credentials

@kennethlimcp ? Am I missing something?

@kennethlimcp

@rverma, please run CMD as administrator

I am running it as an admin.

Hmm…

mine has the word administrator:

I have a similar problem, my core worked until I tried it on a new network. It failed to connect although it did flash blue initially.

After putting it in DFU mode (Flashing yellow) and flashing the new CC3000 bin to it, the light goes off. Holding the mode button for >1 sec does not cause it to turn on magenta.

When resetting by holding for 10 sec + hitting mode button it flashes white continuously.

Any ideas?

Strange. Can you patch the old CC3000 and test again?

I don’t recommend doing patches if your core worked fine. Flashing blue just means it didn’t received any wifi credentials and does require any fix
